For an assignment, I was required to look at different blogs that were being used by teachers. I discovered some really creative ways that blogs can be used in education.
One of the blogs that I really enjoyed was Mathematics Learning and was created by a mathematics teacher in India. This blog has fun puzzles, free software to download, various e-tools, etc. There were also pictures of commonly missed problems and what students had done wrong. The teacher includes information about different workshops that she has attended and writes about them. She writes about the topics discussed, the tools introduced, and the things she found helpful. The blog is interesting in itself. She has inserted podcasts, pictures, and videos.
The other blog that I also found useful was Siyensya, which is the Bisaya word for Science. This blog belongs to a middle school science teacher. He documents the activities that happen in his science class. He has both pictures and videos to show the happenings of his classroom. He has some really interesting ideas that seem fun and beneficial at the same time. I also like that he includes some topics of science that are in the news. I think this is a good way to show students how the material they learn in school are relevant outside of school as well.

The blog that you found on mathematics seems really interesting. I have never thought of blogs before as a place to show mistakes, or problems that students had gotten wrong. I feel like some students get uncomfortable when they have to meet with a teacher one on one to work on areas they don't understand; this way provides them help, without the close personal interaction.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a good idea too. I think that students would respond well to this because it would show that their classmates have similar errors.
